Event Overview

"Shichikashuku Waraji Walking Festival" is a charming, community-led walking event set along the historic Shichikashuku Kaido, once a major route for the daimyo during the Edo period. Participants wear "waraji" (traditional straw sandals) handcrafted by locals to walk approximately 12km from the ski resort to the town hall. This special summer experience allows you to immerse yourself in traditional Japanese scenery, featuring recreations of Edo-period checkpoints and teahouses, all while listening to the soothing sounds of nearby rivers.

The biggest draw is the feeling of "time travel" to the Edo period. Along the route, you can enjoy recreations of historical checkpoints and teahouses, capturing the atmosphere of ancient travelers. Walking through the lush nature of Shichikashuku in handmade waraji is a truly unique cultural experience. It is a deeply satisfying event that connects you with local traditions and the historical essence of the Japanese landscape.

Venue & Access

The course is approximately 12km long, starting from Miyagi Zao Shichikashuku Ski Resort and ending at the Shichikashuku Town Hall.

We recommend checking public transportation or driving routes to the Shichikashuku area in advance.

Participation Details

This event requires pre-registration (limited to the first 500 participants). If you wish to experience wearing the traditional straw sandals, please ensure you select the "With Waraji" plan. If you choose not to wear them, the fee is 800 JPY lower. As capacity is limited, early registration is highly recommended.
