"Chiyo no Yube" is a special evening event held as part of the famous Gujo Odori summer festival in Gujo Hachiman, Gifu Prefecture. The venue is Shiroyama Park, located at the site of the former main enclosure of Gujo Hachiman Castle. As the surrounding mountains and trees create a beautiful silhouette against the night sky, you can enjoy dancing in a mystical atmosphere, feeling as though you are being watched over by the statues of the historical figures Yamauchi Kazutoyo and his wife, Chiyo.
The greatest draw of this event is the extraordinary location. Unlike the standard dances held in the town streets, this session takes place amidst the vast nature and historic scenery of the castle ruins. The combination of the night's stillness, the rhythmic music, and the illuminated silhouette of the castle creates a deeply emotional and scenic landscape. Shiroyama Park is situated at a higher elevation above the castle town. While the festival period is very crowded, "Chiyo no Yube" offers a more serene time to enjoy the beautiful views. We recommend dancing at a relaxed pace to fully soak in the historical atmosphere.
As the event is held around the castle ruins at night, please wear comfortable clothing suitable for the evening's temperature. We recommend sturdy walking shoes for the uneven terrain.
