Asamakasas is an event related to the "Hakata Gion Yamakasa," held every July in the Hakata district of Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Originating in 1241, the Hakata Gion Yamakasa is a significant ritual designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. Within the series of events starting from the display of Kazari-yamakasa on July 1 and leading up to the Oiyama on the 15th, Asamakasas serves as a crucial moment where the festival's fervor begins to intensify.
The main highlight is the powerful movement of the Yamakasa floats racing through the streets of Hakata. As the decorative floats (Kazari-yamakasa) are on display, seeing the actual floats run specific courses captures the true vitality of the festival.
