Event Overview

The Amakigawa Fireworks Festival is a cherished summer tradition held near the Koishihara River in Asakura, Fukuoka. Attracting about 20,000 visitors annually, the event features approximately 4,000 fireworks that light up the night sky. A unique highlight is the coexistence with the "Nagarekanjo" ritual, where 60 to 70 lanterns are floated down the river, creating a breathtaking and serene scene.

The main attraction is the combination of powerful fireworks and the floating lanterns reflecting on the water. The massive fireworks displays create a colorful, immersive spectacle. The area around Amaki Bridge, illuminated by lanterns, offers a beautiful atmosphere perfect for photography. You can also enjoy the festive spirit by exploring around 100 food stalls serving classic festival treats like yakisoba and takoyaki.

Schedule

The event is scheduled for August 22, 2026. Fireworks are expected to launch from 19:30 to 21:00. The lantern floating ceremony is planned to begin around 20:30. Please note that in case of bad weather, the event may be postponed to the following day (August 23).

Venue & Access

The venue is downstream from Amaki Bridge on the Koishihara River.

  • Approx. 10-minute walk from Amaki Station (Amagi Railway)
  • Approx. 15-minute walk from Amaki Station (Nishitetsu Amagi Line)
  • *By Car**:
  • The nearest access is via the Amagi IC on the Oita Expressway.
  • There are no dedicated large parking lots at the venue. Temporary parking is usually available near Peaport Amagi or Asakura City Hall. However, significant traffic restrictions occur from 19:00 to 21:30, so please check local parking info in advance.

Tips for Visitors

To enjoy the event comfortably, arrive early. The area becomes very crowded, so we recommend arriving by 17:00 or 18:00 to enjoy the food stalls. For a more relaxed view, consider higher ground such as Amaki Park or Amaki Chuo Park, which are great for families.

Essentials & Etiquette

As this is an outdoor night event, please prepare the following:

  • *Recommended Items**: A picnic mat, folding chair, drinks, power bank, insect repellent, wet wipes, and a flashlight for the walk back.
  • *Clothing**: Light clothing for the heat. Since you will be near the riverbank, wear stable shoes.
  • *Payment & Reservations**: There are no reserved paid seats. Please carry cash for food stalls and check train schedules in advance.
