The Aki no Dai-sai is a significant annual ritual held on November 15th at Nagao Tsurugi Shrine in Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Founded in the year 713, this historic shrine is most famous for its stunning torii gate that stands directly in the sea. The shrine is dedicated to the deity of the sea (Wadatsumi-no-kami) and has long been a place of worship for those seeking healing from ailments. The site is also steeped in legend, with its name said to derive from the local landscape resembling the shape of a ray (ei).
