Event Overview

2026 Kamojima Awa Odori is a once-a-year, one-night-only Awa Odori event held in the Kamojima Ekimae Chuo-dori shopping street in Yoshinogawa City, Tokushima Prefecture. Set against a backdrop of historic buildings and traditional streetscapes, the event takes place on August 16, 2026, from 18:00 to 21:30.

Both local groups (ren) and well-known professional dance troupes (yumei-ren) will perform in the shopping street. Because the venue is a compact urban space, spectators can enjoy an incredibly close-up view of the dancers. Numerous food stalls will also line the streets, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The biggest draw is the powerful Awa Odori performances unfolding right within the streetscape. Unlike large-scale festivals held in wide plazas, this event takes place in a narrow shopping street, allowing you to experience the intricate movements, costumes, and the rhythmic sound of the instruments from just inches away.

You can experience both the grassroots energy of local groups and the sophisticated artistry of famous troupes in the same space. Additionally, you can enjoy the local food culture at the many street stalls. The combination of the rhythmic dance, the street lights, and the energy of the food stalls creates an unforgettable summer night.
